EMP partner, Helen Parsonage, and her clients started off October 31, 2013 with the firmā€™s first same-sex ā€˜green cardā€™ marriage interview in Charlotte,NC. The clients, one a United States citizen, and the other an immigrant, have been legally married for over two years. Once the United States Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act this summer, the way was clear for them, and for thousands of other same sex couples, to enjoy the benefits of immigration sponsorship previously denied them. The adjudicator at United States Citizenship and Immigration Services was friendly and seemed as excited as the clients were. She approved the green card application in short order.
